008: The Incredibles Tag Whitney

Two interviews. Reviews Incredibles 2, Tag and Whitney. News, of ‘Mel Gibson’, ice cream photos in Wales and Oscar Best Actor predictions

This months show features two interviews. We review Incredibles 2, Tag and Whitney. In News, Graham talks ‘Mel Gibson’, Jeff muses on ice cream photos in Wales and Neil gives us his Best Actor predictions for next years Oscars.

This months show features two interviews. For our first interview we met with musical arranger Robin A. Smith, who has worked with legends like Pavarotti and Rod Stewart. Robin agreed to give us some of his precious time and talk to Jeff and Graham about his upcoming concert in Cheltenham Town Hall. The concert called Thrones, Swords and Fantasy; a Celebration of Film and Game Music, was attended by the At the Flicks team and we give a short review of the concert after the interview.

For our next interview, in a feature that we hope will become a regular event, we met with Steve Wright, the manager of the Cheltenham Cineworld Cinema. We discuss the new Movies coming to the big screen over the next few months.

The rest of our show is dedicated to reviewing; The Incredibles 2, back for a more Superhero crime busting action in the specular Pixar style established in the first movie which was 14 years ago. Tag, which is the first comedy outing for Jeremy Renner, who is more commonly seen in his role as Hawkeye in the Avengers Movies. Finally Jeff reviews Whitney from director Kevin Macdonald, a documentary about the 80’s superstar Whitney Huston and her troubled and tragic life story.

As usual, our Movie news section takes a rather disrespectful look at what you can expect to see in cinemas next year. This month’s News section includes more news on Graham’s favourite, Mel Gibson! Jeff talks about a very interesting new Movie being filmed around Carmarthen in Wales. Neil takes a slight detour this month, away from news and into predictions. In his predictions Neil details a number of excellent Movies coming out later in the year. These Movies should give their principal cast members a good shot at the, Best Actress and Best Actor category at the Oscars next year. Finally Jeff end the show with another three part fun Movie question for you.

Mentioned in the Podcast

In this months “What else have we been watching” Graham mentioned the BBC Radio 4 series The Quanderhorn Xperimentations. Written by Rob Grant, co-creator of Red Dwarf, and Andrew Marshall, writer of 2Point4Children. This duo bring their formidable sitcom talents to bear on this parody of Quatermass and Dan Dare. The show is set in an England that has been stuck in 1952 for 66 years. Stand out performances from; John Sessions who delivers a scene-stealing Churchill and a sarcastic butler. Kevin Eldon does a fun Martian who learned the ways of Earthlings by watching Terry Thomas Movies. It’s still available for download on iPlayer.

Also, in the same section of the Podcast Jeff mentioned the hit satirical comedy Dead Ringers; also from BBC Radio 4. This sharp, cutting and acid send up of all the current political goings-on in the UK has never been more edgy. The current series has just finished, but can still be downloaded from the BBC Radio iPlayer website.
